Regragui: Fan Support is Our Decisive Strength, Mali Match a Tough Challenge

Walid Regragui, the national coach of the Moroccan football team, confirmed that the technical staff has not yet finalized the starting lineup for the Mali match in the second round of the AFCON 2025 group stage, explaining that the decision will be based on tactical aspects and match requirements.

During the pre-match press conference, Regragui noted that selections will be based on a precise assessment of player roles. He explained that choosing the starting striker—whether Youssef En-Nesyri, Soufiane Rahimi, or Ayoub El Kaabi—will follow the technical vision, adding that a striker's role isn't just scoring but includes teamwork and creating threats from various areas.

The 'Atlas Lions' coach stated that all players can provide a real addition, emphasizing that the team does not rely on the idea of 'substitutes' but on an integrated group where every player must provide value upon participation, citing the diversity of technical abilities as a key strength.

In this context, Regragui stressed that fan support is the most important weapon for the Moroccan team in this tournament, highlighting that the large crowd gives players extra motivation and makes a difference on the pitch, especially in difficult matches.

Speaking about the Mali encounter, Regragui considered it a powerful test against a team with talented players. He explained that the match will be balanced given both teams' desire to win, confirming Morocco's primary goal is to collect three points and secure second-round qualification as soon as possible.

The Moroccan coach also described the current edition of the Africa Cup of Nations as the toughest in history due to the readiness of all teams and the availability of ideal conditions regarding stadiums and organization, noting that any team winning the title will have truly earned it.
